Convenience Center

The Convenience Center is open to residents of Hopewell and Greenwich only. PERMITS ARE REQUIRED.  Residents can obtain a permit to use the Convenience Center at the Hopewell Township Municipal Building, 590 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton.

Am I eligible for a permit?

Only residents of Hopewell and Greenwich are eligible for a Convenience Center pass and are entitled to use the Shared Waste Facility. There is a limit of two permits per household. Residential property owners who do not live in Hopewell must have their tenants obtain a permit. If there are no tenants, please arrange for a private entity to provide for trash pickup. Businesses are required to recycle and have trash removed from their facility. Commercial vehicles are not eligible for permits. There are no exceptions to these rules.

How do I obtain a permit?

You may obtain a permit at the Township Municipal Building. Please bring with you proof of identification showing residency along with a copy of the registration to the vehicle you are using to transport your items. If you have recently relocated here and your ID does not show your correct address, please bring with you a utility bill confirming your address. There is no fee for the permit.

What types of materials are not permitted?

No construction debris is permitted. Please obtain a dumpster if you are performing renovations or large projects. In addition, no tires, batteries, shingles, chemicals, oil-based paints or solvents are accepted. They are disposed of through the Cumberland County Improvement Authority Household Waste Days.

How do I obtain a Recycling Container?

Recycling containers are free with the permit and can be picked up at the Township Municipal Building during office hours.

Hours: Wednesdays & Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Hopewell and Greenwich residents ONLY.
  • Residential household trash/recyclables only. No commercial vehicles. No Commercial waste.
  • Passes are required. They are free from the Township Offices. Proof of Residency and vehicle registration need to be presented at time of issue. You will not be allowed to use the convenience center without a pass.
  • Use closed bags to transport trash. Cover all truck beds to prevent trash from flying out into streets, yards and fields.
  • Only one load of trash is allowed per day. A load of trash consist of normal residential trash of not more than 10 large trash bags.
  • Single Stream Recycling. All material is placed in one container. Cardboard must be flattened. Please do this before you bring it to the center. Use a container for your recyclables. Containers are available for free at Township Offices. Remove all caps and lids. Rinse all containers of food residue.
  • All loads must go over the ramp for inspection (except for brush/leaves/grass). All trash that can be compacted must be compacted. This saves on hauling fees. Hauling fees are per load regardless of weight. Please compact your trash.
  • Shredded Paper is trash. DO NOT put this in the recycle container because it jams the sorting machine.
  • Rigid plastic (buckets, resin chairs, old toys) are trash. Do not recycle.
  • Leaves, grass clippings, flowers, old garden plants and non-wood items are placed in the compost mound at the rear of the facility. Brush and leaves fall under recycling. Leaves and grass clippings are limited to one load per day, the load size shall not exceed a size of 4′ wide x 6′ long x 3′ tall.
  • Brush shall be no more than three (3) inches in diameter and no more than six (6) feet in length. You may be refused the right to dump if the load has brush longer than six (6) feet or greater than (3) inches in diameter. This chipping service is intended as an aid in normal maintenance of individual properties. We do not chip brush and limbs when residents clear their lots or cut down trees. Only one load is allowed per day, the load shall not exceed a size of 4′ wide x 6′ long x 3′ tall.

ADDITIONAL ACCEPTED ITEMS:

  • Latex paint: Accepted if dry/solidified and the lid is removed. Use cat litter to speed up drying.
  • Furniture/Cabinets: Must be broken up before taking it to the center.
  • Appliances: Place near the RED dumpster. Do not remove refrigerant.
  • Metal: Place in designated dumpster. No metal can be removed from the facility.
  • Electronics: Place near the shed to the right of the entry ramp.
  • Oil / Antifreeze: Place in the containers to the right of the exit ramp.
  • Concrete/Masonry: Small quantities may be placed in the dumpster at the rear.

ADDITIONAL REJECTED ITEMS:

  • No construction debris. Obtain a dumpster for renovations.
  • No tires, batteries or shingles will be accepted in any quantity.
  • No chemicals, oil-based paints or solvents. Use CCIA household waste days.
  • No logs, trees or root balls.
