The Hopewell Township
Environmental Commission is an advisory committee established by the Township
Committee to:
 |
Prepare an Environmental Resource
Inventory (ERI) on the natural resource characteristics and
environmental features of Hopewell Township; |
 |
Advise the planning and zoning boards
about the impacts of proposals for development on such issues as
flooding and runoff, open space needs, water and air quality, and
plant and animal habit; |
 |
Investigate environmental problems and
offer solutions; |
 |
Educate and inform residents on ways to
help protect the environment; and |
 |
Advocate planned open space
preservation; |
|
| |
| The Environmental Resource
Inventory is a compilation of text and visual information about the
natural resource characteristics and environmental features of Hopewell
Township. It provides baseline documentation for measuring and
evaluating resource protection issues. The ERI is an important
tool for use by the Township Committee, Environmental Commission, and
the Planning and Zoning Boards to evaluate the impact of land use and
other decisions on local and regional resources. The inventory
includes maps and text containing information of the municipality's land
use, geography/topography, geology, hydrology, climate, soils, surface
and ground water resources, vegetation, wetlands, wildlife, air and
water quality, critical areas, and historic structures. |

| Forested areas and trees
are one of Hopewell Township's most precious natural resources.
The
Environmental Commission is collecting information on significant trees
within our Township to identify and celebrate those of special significance.
Nominated trees and their photographs will be added to our significant tree
inventory, which is Appendix 4 to the Environmental Resources Inventory
(ERI Appendix 4). We invite residents of all ages to
submit nominations for their favorite tree.
